IPL for Acne
Acne is caused by bacteria (P. acnes) that live on the skin and in oil glands. Hormones (such as those produced in puberty) can lead to excess oil gland secretion which, combined with bacterial growth, causes break outs. Hormones, antibiotics and topical creams like Retin-A are used to treat recurrent acne, but all have worrisome side effects. Palomar’s Lux V™ System provides a safe alternative to reducing bacterial growth and oil secretion, the 2 major culprits in acne. A high energy pulse of filtered light is absorbed by the targeted subcutaneous oil glands, permanently disabling them while destroying the bacteria that breeds inside the glands.
The IPL acne treatment procedure lasts about 15 minutes and produces brief discomfort and redness. A series of 8 treatments is recommended. For patients suffering from acne scarring and pitting, there is additional help. Through a combination of microdermabrasion and dermal filler injections, the cosmetic damage of acne can be greatly reduced.
